A charming desk library by Asprey of London with a complete set of half-leather bound books. Circa 1912. Oak book trough: Dimensions: 7.75" (length) x 6.25" (depth) x 4.0 (height). Each volume well bind in tan calf (possibly Ostrich skin?) . Gilt titles to spine a little rubbed. Hinges carefully strengthened. The tab on the Encyclopaedia is rubbed and cracked, but holding firm. All page edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. 8 Volume set, comprising of 2 larger volumes (6.0" x 3.25" x 1.25"): English Dictionary (pp.442), and Bellows French Dictionary, Fourth Edition, 1951 ([8pp.]/pp.765/[2pp.]) The other 6 volumes measure; 5.0" x 3.5" x 1.25": Atlas (pp.31 + 145 coloured maps); Gazetteer Of The World (pp.14/pp.726); English Quotations and Proverbs (pp.4/pp.120/[2pp./pp.127); Atlas, Classic and Mythology, French and Latin Quotations (pp.3/pp.116/pp.3/pp.120); Classics And Mythology ([4pp.]/pp.120/pp.4/pp.116) and Concise Pocket Encyclopaedia ([4pp.]/pp.718), fitted into an oak case. The miniature reference library featured in the Asprey range from the very late 19th century and proved popular into the 1960's.
