A very good full leather binding. 16mo. [16pp.]/pp.256 . 7.0" x 4.5" x 0.75" . Later tan leather boards with smooth spine. Hinges cracked but binding firm. Marbled page edges. Plain grey endpapers. Large bookplate to verso of the front board: "Ex Libris Nicholas Robinson Nat. MDCCCXLII." Neat written poem in a 19th century hand to front free-endpaper: "Sonnet By King Charles the first". Ink blots to frontis and title-page, otherwise clean English text throughout. COPAC (British Library) states: "Originally attributed to Charles I, but, according to Madan (pp.126-33), written by John Gauden, who probably included some authentic writings of the King. Includes frontispiece expected with this edition (Madan version 47), signed "R White Sculp", and portrait (Madan version 15) on p.220, facing chapter 27. " Referenced by: ESTC R204383 / Madan, F.F.
