A very good original binding. 32mo. 5.25" x 3.5" x 1.0". pp.447,[1p. [blank] with an engraved frontis. Green blind-stamp decorated boards, with bright gilt tltles to spine. Edges lightly rubbed and corners bumped. Endpapers with printed catalogue (lightly soiled): "A List Of Cheap Books, sold by all booksellers: Published by Milner And Sowerby, Cheapside, Halifax. - The Cottage Library. - (Halifax.)" Engraved frontis (of a sick man surrounded by two attendants), facing a printed title-page (lightly soiled), with an inked dedication to top of the page. Clear English text throughout, just the odd brown spot to the page edges and margins. Colophon to base of the last page of index (p.447): "C. Jones, Printer, Duke Street, London." An interesting collection of curious recipes and instructions including: Creme de Noyeau de Martinique (an early version of Amaretto); Transparent Marmalade; Sycamore Wine; Shrewsbury Cake; To Remove Freckles (using mercury and hydrochloric acid); Paregoric (using opium and laudanum); Composition for skyrockets; and Fourty-two Experimental Receipts on Combustion and Detonation! - That should keep everyone occupied!
